Whether you are a long time Pocono resident or are new to the area, come visit and let us show you our warm
hospitality. We are a Reform Jewish congregation affiliated with the Union of Reform Judaism, the
Jewish Federation of Northeast Pennsylvania and the Interfaith Council.
Our congregation began in 1995. We are the first Reform Jewish congregation in the Poconos. The congregation was incorporated in 1996 and has grown steadily. Our first services were lay-led and were held in congregants' homes. In 2001, we began holding services in the social hall of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Pocono Pines. Our hosts have been more than gracious and welcoming to us. The new home of our own is located on a beautiful 10-acre site at the intersection of Route 940, Sullivan Road and Sullivan Trail Our Rabbi, Peg Kershenbaum, conducts bi-monthly Saturday morning services plus a monthly Friday night dinner and Shabbat program. In 2006, we hired an experienced teacher for our Hebrew School. Oneg Shabbat follows Shabbat services where all our members and our students celebrate the Sabbath together and socialize informally with one another and with the Rabbi. B'nai Harim offers more than religious services. We offer an array of cultural, social, adult and family events including regularly scheduled educational talks on relevant topics, Hebrew lessons and ongoing book discussions. In the fall of 2004 we opened our new building with the observance of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. On July 4, 2005 we proudly unveiled the Temple Cornerstones. The congregation is staffed primarily by volunteers. This gives our members the opportunity to shape our growth and it allows us to maintain our membership costs at a very affordable level. |
